Plans, trials, pausing, and payment management.

Plans

  • Basic (Free): the core workflow free forever, no card required. Includes shift tracking across self-invoiced, agency, and PAYE modes (capped at 5 sessions per calendar month on Basic); shift pay-check (paid correctly, paid short, not paid yet); workplace signed-URL access on every invoice and booking email; cross-role work; availability calendar; public profile and directory listing; booking requests; in-app inbox; referrals; and up to 5 self-invoiced invoices per calendar month. Hit either cap and the dashboard prompts you to upgrade.
  • Plus: £14.99/month (or £149.99/year, equivalent to £12.50/month). Everything in Basic, plus unlimited invoices sent by email, automatic chaser emails at day 14/21/28 past due, NHS Pension Form A and B (GPs), NMC revalidation tracker with portfolio PDF (nurses and midwives), the midwifery competency tracker, expenses and mileage at HMRC rates, receipt uploads, the partitioned tax reserve, the professional document store, cancellation protection, booking confirmation emails, the calendar feed for Google Calendar / Outlook / Apple Calendar, and the ability to pause your subscription during quiet periods.
  • Pro: £24.99/month (or £249.99/year). Everything in Plus, plus Xero two-way sync, REST API access, advanced reporting, and priority email support.

Launch offer

Tip

Plus is £4.99/month for your first 3 months, then £14.99/month. This introductory rate is applied automatically when you subscribe to the monthly plan before 1 August 2026. Annual billing is £149.99/year from day one (equivalent to £12.50/month, a 17% saving on the standard monthly price).

The launch offer applies to new Plus subscriptions only. You can cancel at any time during or after the introductory period.

14-day free trial

When you first upgrade to Plus, you get a 14-day free trial. During the trial you have full access to all Plus features. You will not be charged until the trial ends.

If you cancel before the trial ends, you revert to Basic (free) and are never charged. If you continue, billing begins automatically on day 15 at the launch price (or the standard price, if the launch offer has expired).

Joined via an invite link

If you created your account through an invite link rather than the normal signup flow, your trial length was set by whoever invited you. Trials range from one to twelve months. You can see your current trial end date on the Billing tab of your dashboard.

Three days before your trial ends, Sessional emails a reminder so you can decide whether to subscribe. If you take no action, the account automatically reverts to Basic at trial end; nothing is charged. If the invite included complimentary access, the same Plus features stay on indefinitely and you will never be billed unless an admin removes the comp flag.

Promo codes

If you have a promo code, enter it at checkout before confirming your subscription. The discount will be applied to your first payment or as specified by the promotion.

Promo codes cannot be applied retroactively to an existing subscription. Only one code can be used per account.

Monthly vs annual billing

You can choose between two billing cycles on Plus and Pro:

  • Monthly: £14.99/month on Plus (£4.99/month for the first 3 months with the launch offer until 1 August 2026). £24.99/month on Pro. Cancel or change plan at any time.
  • Annual: £149.99/year on Plus, or £249.99/year on Pro, paid upfront. Annual Plus works out to £12.50/month, saving approximately £30 a year compared to monthly billing.

You can switch between monthly and annual billing from the billing page at any time. When switching to annual, you are charged the prorated difference for the remainder of your current period.

Pausing your subscription

Taking a break from locum work? You can pause your subscription from the billing page. While paused:

  • Billing stops. You are not charged
  • Your data stays safe and accessible
  • You revert to Basic (free) tier features until you resume
  • You can resume at any time and billing restarts immediately

Pausing is designed for maternity leave, sabbaticals, career breaks, or any period when you are not actively doing locum work. There is no limit on how long you can pause.

What happens when you cancel

If you cancel your subscription:

  • You keep access to all paid features until the end of your current billing period
  • After the period ends, your account reverts to Basic (free)
  • Your data is never deleted. Bookings, invoices, documents, and all records remain in your account
  • You can upgrade again at any time to regain access to Plus or Pro features

Managing your subscription

From the billing tab on your profile page you can:

  • Upgrade or downgrade your plan
  • Switch between monthly and annual billing
  • Apply a promo code
  • Pause or resume your subscription
  • Update your payment method
  • View your billing history and download receipts
  • Cancel your subscription

Subscription management is handled securely through Stripe. Sessional never sees or stores your card details. You can also access the Stripe billing portal directly for detailed payment history and card management.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to use the free Basic plan on Sessional?
No. Basic is free forever and requires no payment method. You only need to enter card details when you choose to upgrade to Plus or Pro.
Can I try the Plus plan free before committing?
Yes. Every new Plus subscription starts with a 14-day free trial. Cancel before it ends and you will not be charged.
What is the current launch price for the Plus plan?
Plus is £4.99/month for the first 3 months, then £14.99/month. The launch offer is available on new monthly subscriptions started before 1 August 2026. Annual subscribers pay £149.99/year from day one.
Will I lose my data if I downgrade to Basic?
No. All your data (bookings, invoices, documents, expenses) remains in your account. You just lose access to Plus and Pro features until you upgrade again.
Can I get a refund?
Monthly subscriptions are not refundable, but you can cancel at any time and continue using Plus or Pro until the end of your billing period. For annual subscriptions, contact support within 14 days of purchase for a full refund.
How do I apply a promo code to an existing subscription?
Promo codes can only be applied at checkout. If you already have an active subscription, contact support and we will apply the code manually if eligible.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
